Northampton appoint Wilder

Northampton Town have announced that Chris Wilder is their new manager, following his resignation from Oxford United.

Wilder replaces Aidy Boothroyd who was sacked by the Cobblers after two years at the club. Boothroyd led Northampton to last year’s play-off final (a 3-0 loss to Bradford) but failed to achieve success this season and Town are currently bottom of the league.

The decision from Chris Wilder to join Northampton will surprise people, none more so than U’s fans after the Sheffield born boss guided Oxford from the Conference to the football league in two seasons and leaves them in the League 2 play-off places.

Alan Knill will be the new assistant at Sixfields, Knill himself recently left a League 2 club, Torquay, by contract termination following a less than impressive start there.

Wilder’s first game in charge will be at home to Rochdale on the 28th
